I am so excited to offer Shiatsu therapy at Selby Acupuncture. So, what is Shiatsu anyway? Shiatsu is a blend of massage and acupressure points, using pressure instead of needles we can treat the whole body, just like acupuncture. When in practice, many people ask, how did you decide to do this work? Not knowing even about this treatment two years ago, the journey was interesting and beautiful.
While working at Selby Acupuncture as the office manager, I became fascinated with Chinese Medicine. I was able to experience the benefits of acupuncture and herbs myself, and I got to know many of you and heard your stories of how it was helping, how it was changing your life.
Years ago I began studying Reiki, a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Through that experience, I discovered how much I liked the power of healing through touch. At that point I knew two things, that I liked Traditional Chinese Medicine and that I wanted to practice bodywork. Shiatsu is a perfect combination of the two, but I had never even heard of Shiatsu!
I visited Sedona, AZ during this time. My goal was twofold, to enjoy the beauty of the area, and to gain some insight into my next steps. During my trip I researched various types of massage only to find out that there is a type of massage that is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (Shiatsu!) and a great school in St. Louis Park, MN. It seemed meant to be.
This last year as been full of growth for me and I feel grateful for every bit of it.
I am excited to be returning to Selby Acupuncture and I look forward to helping you achieve wellness!
