Prickly Throat? Partake in Pears!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pears are moistening to Lung energy of the body. This season’s colds and flus have been especially hard on this organ system and here you will find a couple tasty recipes to nourish, moisten, and warm the lungs.

ROASTED PEAR and HONEY RECIPE

Ingredients:

-2 pears cored and halved (Anjou, Bartlett, or Asian)

-1 TBS. of softened ghee, coconut oil, or butter

-1 TBS. of local honey

-1/4 to 1/2 tsp of cinnamon

-1/2 cup crushed nuts (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Put pears onto baking sheet face up.

Rub ghee, coconut oil, or butter onto the surface of the pears.

Fill each cored pear with crushed pecans or other nuts. (Optional)

Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Put in middle rack in oven for 30-35 minutes or until the surface is golden brown but not burnt.

Remove pears from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.

Pears should be soft enough to slice with a spoon.

Drizzle honey over as desired. Enjoy!

PEAR and ALMOND SOUP for DRY COUGH

INGREDIENTS:

-5 ripe pears

-2 cups of almonds

-2 quarts of water

-honey and fresh mint leaves to taste

DIRECTIONS:

-Cut pears in half and remove stem and seeds.

-Chop pears into small pieces.

-Place 2 cups of almonds and chopped pears into water.

-Bring to a boil, cover, and then simmer for 15 minutes.

-Remove from heat.

-Add honey and mint to taste. Drink one to two cups daily to strengthen the lung!
